City of New York Property Tax-Exemtion for Not-for-Profit Organizations

Sincerely yours,

The Reverend Dr. Jimmy Seong G. Lim

Attached is the most recent list of Not for Profit organizations that have not yet filed their property tax exemption renewal applications with the Department of Finance. We recently published our annual tentative property assessment roll. Any property on the attached list was included on the tentative assessment roll without an exemption - meaning the property was listed as taxable for the tax year beginning in July 2012. We have mailed each of these properties another letter asking them to please file with us by Fenruary 13. If they file with us as requested and they remain eligible for the non-profit exemption, the exemption will go back on the property for the final assessment roll.

If you could, please reach out to any organizations that you see on this list that you have a relationship with to make sure they get in their renewals by that deadline, and share this list with anyone you think can help out. We must have their renewal forms soon so that we can process the renewals in time for the final assessment roll. If they do not send in their renewal forms, once the assessment roll is finalized in May, they will owe taxes for the coming tax year. Thereafter, even if they receive the exemption in a future tax year, they will still owe taxes for any year for which they did not have the exemption.

We also encourage these not for profit organizations to file forms with the Tax Commission by their deadlines in March (http://www.nyc.gov/html/taxcomm/html/home/home.shtml) - this would enable them to protest their taxable value for the coming year.

Organizations can request forms, send questions, or email completed forms to us atcommercialexemptions@finance.nyc.gov. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at feinbergdebra@finance.nyc.gov or at 212-669-8813.

Thanks so much in advance for your assistance,

Debra
