RCA 한인교회협의회(회장 송흥용 목사)가 7일 중국계과 흑인, 히스패닉 등 타민족 학생 6명에게 장학금을 전달하는 시간을 가졌다.
RCA 한인교회들의 이번 장학금 전달은 한인사회의 틀을 벗어나 타민족 중에 어려운 환경 가운데서 성실히 공부하는 이들을 격려하기 위한 것으로 한인교회들이 타민족을 품는다는데 의의가 있다.
실제로 RCA는 현재 다민족 공동체를 교단의 10년의 목표로 세우고 다양한 민족이 하나의 목표를 향해 나아가는 새로운 모델을 창출해 나가고 있다. RCA 한인교회들의 이번 장학금 또한 다민족 공동체를 위한 교단의 비전과 뜻을 함께 하고 있는 것이다.
7일 장학금 전달식에는 총 5명의 학생이 참석해 장학금을 전달받았다. 1차적으로 전달된 장학금은 총 3천 불로 매년 RCA한인교회들은 10명 이상의 학생들을 장학금으로 도와왔다.
이날 회장 송흥용 목사는 “소수민족 교회들의 추언을 받아 가계 수입이 적은 이들을 우선적으로 장학금 수여 대상으로 선정했다”며 “이들이 믿음 안에서 큰 인물이 될 수 있도록 기도해달라”고 말했다.
특히 이날 이들을 위한 축사는 한인 2세 목회자인 임지윤(임그레이스) 목사가 맡아 주목됐다. 임지윤 목사는 잠언서 3:5-6을 읽은 뒤 학생들에게 “하나님의 살아계심을 항상 느끼며 주변의 이웃들을 돌보는 이들이 되어야 한다”며 “어려운 중에도 비전을 갖고 성실히 학업에 임할 때 하나님께서 사용하시는 자들이 될 것”이라고 말했다.
임지윤 목사의 축사에 이어 RCA 한인교회 목회자들은 앞으로 나와 장학금을 받은 학생들에게 손을 얹고 기도하는 시간을 갖기도 했다. 다음은 임지윤 목사의 축사 전문.

Congratulations to all of you. The scholarship award is a confirmation to God’s call in your lives. Congratulations.
Do you know the full understanding of Proverbs 3:5-6? In all your ways acknowledge Him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength; and He will make your paths straight. Lean not on your own understanding. Even if you do not understand the circumstances that surround you, remember Him and surrender to Him. Even if you have obstacles in your way and do not understand, you go to Him, kneel and lift up your arms in prayer, ask for His guidance, and He will make your paths straight. Do not look at the circumstances but look to Jesus.
This week, for four days, we have a revival guest speaker, Rev. James Ro, who spoke about “Suffering and God’s Will,” “Suffering and Church,” and “Suffering and Belief.” In Romans 5:1-5, suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character, and character, hope. Suffering builds character. Hope does not disappoint us but brings joy because the Holy Spirit is poured into your hearts. Even if you go through suffering, focus on Him and He will make your paths straight.
Last encouragement, what are the two greatest commandments that Jesus gave to you? “Love the LORD your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” The second is like it, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Remember to love the LORD first in your daily lives and continue deep, intimate, and personal relationships with God through the LORD Jesus Christ throughout your journeys in ministry. Then love your neighors and take care of those in need. In any situation, lean not on your understanding, but acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.
