워싱턴 지역의 한국계 피아노 영재인 칼멘(12세)이 오는 14일 오후 3시 뉴욕 줄리어드 음대 폴홀(Paul Hall)에서 피아노 독주회를 갖는다.

버지니아 애쉬번에 거주하는 칼멘은 지난 3년간 이미 20여차례 각종 콩쿨에서 대상을 수상하였으며 현재는 줄리어드 음대 예비학교에 재학 중이다.

한국계 어머니와 백인계 아버지 사이에 막내딸인 칼멘은 크리스챤 드림 청소년 오케스트라(CDYO) 피아노 반주자이기도 하다.

<칼멘의 Biography>

Carmen Knoll, 12, is a seventh grader attending Belmont Ridge Middle School. She currently attends the Juilliard Pre-college division program and studies piano under the instruction of Ms. Ching Wen Hsiao. In 2009, Carmen was accepted to attend the Aspen Music Festival and School.

In May 2008, she auditioned to attend the Juilliard Pre-college Division program and was accepted. In 2008, she studied piano under the instruction of Ms. Victoria Mushkatkol. She was selected in the American Fine Art Audition and was featured at the Carnegie Hall in June 2007. She was the winner of MSMTA Junior Division Concerto Competition, the WMTA Specialty Competition, and Raissa Tselentis Award in 2007. She also received second place in the NVMTA Piano Concerto Competition in 2007.

She was the first place winner of the 2006 State Audition as well as the winner of the 2006 Asian American Competition. In 2006, she performed at the Music Link Foundation, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, the Hungarian Embassy, and was presented in a solo recital at the JoAnne Rose Gallery in Reston in January 2006. She was featured in the Music Friend’s Concerts at the Alden Theatre Young Soloists Recital in April 2006. She was also the winner of the 2006 Novik Piano Concerto Competition Junior Division for students through ninth grade, the Region III winner of the Bland Competition Junior Division, and the 2005 and 2006 VMTA District Audition winner. Carmen was the alternate of the 2005 and 2006 MSMTA Concerto Competition Junior Division, WMTA Hartman Awards Winner, the winner of the 2005 Old Dominion Classical Period, Doris Chase Sonata Competition, Miriam Gottlieb Competition, NVMT Concerto Competition, VMT State Audition, and was a featured soloist at the GMU Performing Arts Center Young Artist Musicales in October 2005.
