24시간, 1년 365일 끊임없이 찬양과 중보기도를 하고 있는 국제 기도의 집 아이합(IHOP). 1999년부터 시작된 이곳이 알려지며 수년 전부터 많은 한인들이 찾고있다. 이에 올 5월에는 한국인을 위한 컨퍼런스가 진행되기도 했다. 뉴욕에서는 한 목회자의 사임과 관련, 아이합이 언급돼 관심을 끌었다. 일각에서는 이단이라고 단정 짓기도 하고, 한편에서는 마지막 때 기도로 준비하는 공동체라고 평가한다. 아이합의 기도운동은 무엇인지, 한인들로부터 폭발적인 반응을 얻고 있는 이유가 무엇이라고 생각하는지 대표 마이크 비클(Mike Bickle) 목사로부터 직접 들었다. 인터뷰는 이메일을 통해 진행됐다.
-아이합의 24/7 기도 운동에 대해 설명해달라. Could you explain IHOP's 24/7 prayer movement.
우리는 전도가 꾸준히 늘어나도록 많은 나라의 다른 여러 교단과 사역을 위해 기도한다. 지상대명령을 위한 기도가 선교지에서 일하는 분들이 효율적으로 일할 수 있게 한다고 믿는다.
We pray for many ministries from many different denominations in many nations for evangelism to continually increase. We believe that prayer for the work of the Great Commission increases the effectiveness of the laborers in the harvest fields.
-아이합은 어떤 사명을 갖고 기도 운동을 하고 있는가. What are IHOP's prayer focuses?
전도(데살로니가후서 3:1), 억압 받는 사람들에게 진리를 전파하는 것(누가복음 18:7-8), 전세계에 예수 그리스도의 말씀의 역사하심을 통한 문화의 변혁(마태복음 28:19)
Evangelism (2 Thes. 3:1), the release of justice to the oppressed (Lk. 18:7-8) and cultural transformation through Jesus’ Word touching all spheres of society (Mt. 28:19)
-기도 운동을 하는 단체나 교회들도 많은데 아이합이 주목을 받는 이유는 무엇이라고 생각하는가. There are many prayer organizations/movements, but why do you think that IHOP is getting a special focus/attention?
아마도 끊임없는 찬양과 기도를 인도하는 젊은 사람들을 위주로 조직되었기 때문일 것이다. 하나님이 사랑하시는 요소, 그리고 첫번째 계명이 이야기하는 바 처럼 하나님의 사랑을 구하는 요소를 가진 찬양에 젊은이들이 깊이 매료된다는 것을 알았다.
Probably because it organized around young people who are leading nonstop prayer that is combined with non stop worship. I have found that young people are deeply attracted to worship music especially when the worship songs have an element of being loved by God and seeking to love God with all our heart as the first commandment says.
-최근 몇 년 사이에 한인들로부터 큰 호응을 얻고 있다. 이에 아이합에 한인 디렉터가 일하고 있고 얼마 전에는 한인을 대상으로 한 컨퍼런스가 열리기도 했다. 아이합이 한국인들로부터 호응을 얻는 이유는 무엇이라고 생각하는가. There's been increase of interest among Koreans in IHOP. Now, you have a Korean director and recently held a conference for Koreans. Why do you think that Koreans are drawn to IHOP?
한국 교회는 기도로 50년 이상 전세계 그리스도의 몸을 이끌도록 성령의 기름부으심을 받았다. 나는 이런 수준의 세계 리더십의 기도가 주님이 다시 오실 때까지 계속 될 것이라고 믿는다. 따라서 한국 교회의 역사와 갈망은 바로 기도와 금식으로 연결된다. 젊은이들과 함께 하는 경배는 한국 젊은이들에게 감동을 준다. 왜냐면 (경배는) 열방을 이끌 그들의 영적인 운명의 일부이기 때문이다.
The Church in Korea has been anointed by the Spirit to lead the worldwide Body of Christ in prayer for over 50 years. I believe this level of worldwide leadership in prayer will continue until the Lord returns. Thus, the history and hunger of the Church in Korea is very connected to prayer and fasting.
The worship element with music with young people touches young people in Korea because it is part of their spiritual destiny to lead the nations.
-한인과 많이 만나보았을 것이라 생각한다. 한인들의 영성에 대해 어떻게 생각하는가. You probably met a number of Koreans. What are your thoughts on the spirituality of Koreans.
한인 기독교인들의 기도와 금식, 선교와 기부에 대한 특별한 헌신은 세계 여러 나라에 잘 알려져 있다.
서구 세계의 많은 사역지의 역사가 뒷걸음하고 있는 것과 달리, 근면과 헌신의 역사가 기도와 금식, 희생, 그리고 어려운 일을 감당할 수 있게 한다 .
The unusual dedication among Koreans Christians in prayer, fasting, missions and extravagant giving is well known across the nations.
This history of diligence and dedication makes them embrace prayer, fasting, sacrifice and hard work instead of draw back from it as is happening in many ministries in the western nations.
-아이합에서 이야기하는 '사도적 리더십'에 대해 좀 더 자세히 설명해줄 수 있는가. Can you explain what you mean by "apostolic leadership"?
‘사도적’이라는 단어를 명사가 아닌 형용사로 사용한다. 사도 교회 또는 신약 교회의 교리, 삶의 방식을 닮고자 하는 리더십을 설명하기 위해 사용한다. 다른 말로 하자면, 부지런하고, 헌신적이고, 핍박을 견디고자 하며, 전도와 세계 선교에 초점을 맞추고자 하며, 산상수훈의 삶의 방식을 따르고자 하는 리더십을 말한다. 이것이 나의 사도적 리더십에 대한 견해다. 나는 그리스도 지체의 모든 리더들이 예수를 향한 진심어린 헌신, 따라서 사도적 리더십에 속해있어야 한다고 믿는다.
I use the word ‘apostolic’ as an adjective not as a noun. I use it to refer to leadership that seeks to imitate the lifestyle and doctrine of the apostolic Church or the New Testament Church. In other words, it is leadership that seeks to be diligent, sacrificial, willing to endure persecution, focused on evangelism and world missions and embraces the Sermon on the Mount lifestyle of Mt. 5-7.
That is my view of apostolic leadership. I believe all leaders in all parts of the Body of Christ are invited to walk in this quality of wholehearted dedication to Jesus, thus, apostolic leadership
-아이합에서 가르치고 있는 마지막 때에 관한 가르침은 어떤 것인가. What is the IHOP's end times teaching?
교회가 승리를 거두게 될 것이라는 것, 그리고 신약의 힘, 순결, 예수님이 재림하시기 전에 복음을 전세계에 전하는 임무를 완성할 때 오는 핍박 가운데 연합함으로 갈 것이라는 것이다. 대환란 가운데 교회가 하나님의 능력과 순결함을 경험할 것, 종국에는 기쁨이 있을 것이라는 것을 믿는다. 나는 예수 재림의 때에 대해 성령으로부터 개인적으로 받은 계시는 없다. 그러나 이 때 사람들이 살아있고 예수의 재림을 볼 수 있을 것이라는 것이 내 의견이다. 그것은 2세 또는 20세 사람이 될 수도 있다. 나는 모른다. 왜냐면 예수님께서 그 때와 시기를 아는 사람이 아무도 없을 것이라고 하셨기 때문이다. 그러나 때에 대한 성경의 징조를 살펴볼 때, 주께서 오실 세대에 근접해있을 가능성이 있다고 믿는다. 예수께서 예언하신 바, 신약 사도와 구약 선지자들의 예언을 종합한 성경의 사인은 지금 이 시대 흐름 안에 잘 나타나있다. 이 시대에도 몇몇 징조는 늘어나고 있다.
That the Church will be victorious and will walk in New Testament power, purity and unity in the midst of persecution as it completes the task of preaching the gospel to all nations before Jesus returns (Mt. 24:14). I believe the Church will on earth experiencing God’s power and purity during the Great Tribulation and will be raptured at the end of it. I do not have any personal revelation from the Spirit about the timing of Jesus’ return but it is my opinion that there are people alive on the earth in this very hour that may see the Lord’s return. It may be those who are 2 years old or even 20 years old, I do not know because Jesus said no one will know the day or the hours of His coming. However, by observation of the biblical signs of the times, I believe it is possible that we are in the early days of that generation in which the Lord returns. The biblical signs prophesied by Jesus Himself, the New Testament apostles and the Old Testament prophets include events as well as major trends in society. Some of these signs are increasing in this hour.
-계시와 예언 사역에 대해서 논란이 많다는 것을 알고 있는지. 이 사역에 대한 신학적인 배경에 대해 설명해달라. Are you aware of a controversy surrounding revelation and prophetic ministry? Could you give a Biblical background on these?
근간에 예언 사역에 대한 논란이 많다. 어떤 것을 언급하는 것인지는 잘 모르겠다. 원칙을 지킨다면 예언 사역에 도움이 될 것이라 생각한다.
예를 들면,
1) 하나님의 기록된 말씀을 존중하는 가운데 예언을 받아야 한다.
2) 우리 삶에 새로운 방향을 다른 사람들이 주는 것 대신 주께서 주신 방향에 대한 확신을 주는 예언을 해야 한다.
3) 지역 교회와 영적인 권위, 그리고 큰 주의 몸을 섬기는 바탕 위에서 예언 사역을 받아야만 한다.
4) 예언의 영은 예수님의 간증이다. 따라서 이것은 사람들을 예수와 그의 가르침에 더욱 크게 순종할 수 있도록, 그리고 지상대명령을 위해 더욱 열심을 낼 수 있도록 이끌어야 한다.
There are a lot of controversies around prophetic ministry today. I am not sure which one you are referring to.
I find prophetic ministry can be helpful if we uphold several key principles. For example,
#1) we should only receive prophetic words that honor the written word of God;
#2) we should only prophetic words that give us confirmation of a direction the Lord gave us instead of letting others prophesy new direction to our life;
#3) we should only receive prophetic ministries that are based in a local Church and under spiritual authority and who honor and serve the larger Body of Christ;
#4) the spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus (Rev. 19:10), thus, it should always lead people to greater obedience to Jesus and His word and greater diligence to the Great Commission.
-아이합의 24/7 기도 운동에 대해 설명해달라. Could you explain IHOP's 24/7 prayer movement.

There are a lot of controversies around prophetic ministry today. I am not sure which one you are referring to.
I find prophetic ministry can be helpful if we uphold several key principles. For example,
