이민으로 보는 미국 역사

이민으로 시작된 나라 미국에서 현재 이민자로 살고 있는 한인들에게 이민의 의미를 찾아 볼 수 있는 강좌가 시카고문화회관에서 열린다. 주제는 “이민으로 보는 미국 역사”이며 김광정, 김신 교수가 강의한다. 3월 11일 첫 강의가 시작돼 5월 27일까지 매주 금요일마다 총 12주간 계속된다. 시간은 오전 10시부터 정오까지.

이번 강의에서는 이민자 정착초기부터 독립전쟁까지를 다루며 이민과 함께 미국의 영토가 어떻게 발전해 왔는지를 다룬다. 이 중에는 인디언과의 관계, 흑인 노예 문제도 들어 있다. 김광정, 김신 교수는 한인이민사를 오랫동안 연구해온 미주의 대표적 사회학자로서 이번 강의를 통해 미국역사 속의 이민을 재조명할 계획이다.
