Morocco (1664 Outpatients, 137 Surgeries, 972 Prescription Glasses)
The people we met in Morocco are beautiful and kind. Their appearance, language, culture and religion were different than us but we learned that our hearts are the same and our differences cannot be barriers in sharing our love as brothers and sisters.
Maryam was our first strabismus surgery patient. She is a brave 8 year old girl who was crying because she was so hungry and thirsty. We could not give her water or food before the surgery so we just held her hand as our hearts melted away. She stopped crying just long enough for us to take this picture. After the surgery, she became even more beautiful. I think she'll be the future Miss Morocco.
This little girl was all smiles before and after the surgery. Her mother could not take eyes off of her beautiful daughter.
10 year old boy, Medhi, was our last strabismus surgery patient. He never cried before or during the surgery. But when he saw his parents' warm smiles when he woke up, he finally teared up. Love for a child is the same in all cultures.........
This teenager kept crying after the surgery in the recovery room. When asked if she's in pain, she said she's crying because she could not believe how beautiful she has become.
We all have different hand motions......but we are all essentially saying the same thing...."Praise God !"
1,664 Outpatients treated, 137 Surgeries, 972 Prescription Glasses.........33 Volunteers.... and many more people who prays for Morocco.
On our last day, we visited the village where many of the patients lived. The whole village came out to greet us with cookies and tea and sang a song to bless us. We experienced the same Love and same Joy together.
See you again next year ! God Bless Morocco !!!
