영화 <타이타닉>에 보면 주인공 잭(Jack)이 로즈(Rose)에게 눈을 감게 합니다. 그리고 배의 난간에 오르게 합니다. 그리고 양쪽 팔을 펼치도록 합니다. 로즈는 어리둥절해하면서 난간을 오르는데, 그 때 대사 한 마디가 나옵니다. “나를 믿나요?” 잭이 묻자, 그녀는 “예”라고 대답합니다.

잭이 눈을 뜨라고 하자 로즈 앞에는 대서양 너머로 넘어가는 태양이 한 눈에 들어왔습니다. 새로운 세계가 펼쳐졌습니다. 바람과 바다가 어우러진 아름다운 풍경은 그녀가 이전에 꿈꾸지 못했던 세상이었습니다. “내가 날고 있어요!"라고 외칩니다. 나중에 배는 침몰하
지만 그들의 사랑은 아름다웠습니다.

만화영화 <알라딘>에는 “나를 믿나요?(Do you trust me?)”라는 대사가 두 차례나 나옵니다. 첫번째는 재스민 공주가 거지 알라딘의 거처에서 왕의 군사에게 쫓기게 되자 알라딘은 건물 아래로 뛰어내리기 전에 공주의 손을 잡으며 묻습니다. “나를 믿나요?” 그러자 공주는 “예”라고 대답합니다. 두 사람은 함께 탈출합니다. 믿음은 위험에 빠졌던 두 사람을 구출했습니다.

두번째 대사는 재스민 공주가 알라딘과 요술 양탄자를 타고 전세계를 일주할 때 공주가 양탄자위에 있는 알라딘에게 묻습니다. “어떻게 그 위에 떠 있을 수 있죠? 떨어지지 않나요? 위험하지 않아요?”

그러자 알라딘은 공주를 양탄자 위로 초대합니다. 그 때 묻습니다. “나를 믿나요?” 공주는 어디서 들은 적이 있다는 생각을 하면서 “예”라고 대답합니다. 그리고 양탄자에 올라탑니다. 이 때 이 영화의 주제음악(A Whole New World/전적으로 새로운 세상)이 흐릅니다.
두 사람은 음악의 선율에 따라 양탄자를 타고 전 세계를 날아다닙니다.

믿음은 두 사람을 이어지는 역할을 했습니다. 위험에서 구출해주었고, 새로운 세계를 볼 수 있도록 만들어주었습니다. 지루하고 무의미한 일상생활에 지쳐있던 그녀를 구출해주었지요.

성경은 우리에게 다음과 같이 이야기합니다. “믿음은 바라는 것들의 바탕이요, 보이지 않는 것들의 증거입니다. 믿음이 없이는 하나님을 기쁘게 해드릴 수 없습니다. 하나님께 나아가는 사람은, 하나님께서 계시다는 것과 하나님께서는 자기를 찾는 사람들에게 상을 주시는 분이라는 것을 믿어야 합니다.”(히11:1, 6. 표준새번역) “여자들은, 죽었다가 부활한 가족을 다시 만났습니다. 또 어떤 이들은, 고문을 당하면서도, 더 좋은 부활의 삶을 얻고자 하여, 구태여 놓여나기를 바라지 않았습니다.”(히11:35)

하나님께서 우리를 위하여 더 좋은 계획을 미리 세워두셨습니다. 우리가 살 더 좋은 세상을 만들어놓고 기다리십니다. 이 세계에 들어갈 수 있는 방법은 돈이 아닙니다. 잘 생겨도 못갑니다. 힘이 세도 안 돼요. 오직 예수님을 믿음으로 갈 수 있습니다. 예수님은 유사한 질문을 여러차례 하셨습니다. “내가 능히 이 일 할 줄을 믿느냐?”(마9:28)

함께 가지 않으실래요?

In the movie , Jack says to Rose “Gimme your hand. Now close your eyes, go on. Now step up. Now hold on to the railing. Keep your eyes closed, don't peek.” “Step up on the
railing. Hold on, hold on. Keep your eyes closed.” Then he says “Do you trust me?” Rose replies “I trust you.” Jack opens Rose’s arms, and then he says “All right. Open your eyes.” When she opened her eyes, she saw the sun beyond horizon of the Atlantic Ocean. Whole new world was in front of her, she had never imagined such beautiful scene where wind and ocean are in harmony. She cries out, “I’m flying, Jack!” Although the ship sunk, their love was beautiful.

In the the line “Do you trust me?” is used twice. When guards chase after Jasmine and Aladdin, Aladdin asks Jasmine before they jump off the roof. “Do you trust me?” and he extends his hand to Jasmine. “Yes”, and Jasmine takes his hand.” They both jump off the roof and manage to escape. Trust saved those two who were in danger. When Jasmine sees Aladdin on magic carpet, he asks “How are you doing that? Is it safe?”

Then Aladdin offers her a ride, and then asks “Do you trust me?” He extends his hand the same as before. Jasmine gets sly grin on her face, and says “Yes.” She takes his hand and gets up on carpet. The music of “A Whole New World” swells. As the music swells, they fly over the world.

Trust connected these two people. Trust saved them from danger, and let them see new world; saved her from tedious everyday.

In the Bible, it says “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see… And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrew 11:1, 6)

“Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection.” (Hebrew 11:35)

God had already planned a better plan for us. He had made a better place to live, and He is waiting for us. Money, appearance, and power are not the way to this world, but only believing in Jesus is the way. Jesus asked similar questions several times. "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" (Matthew 9:28)
